The cabinet was partially coming apart and I needed to take anyway to sand down the veneer layer. I call it veneer but it really is one layer of a thin plywood that was made for this radio. Looks to be Walnut as there is very little red to it and the grain matches Walnut. The key will be to buy veneer that is not to dark. Sometimes Walnut can be very dark with a finish.
